Ducks! Craig Schuftan & Lani Bagley, Berlin, 2017
Residency dates: 15 May – 11 June 2017
Ducks! are making electronic music for dancing and dreaming. Formed in 2014, the Berlin-based Australians released their debut album ‘Ding Ding Ding’ in 2016, which was recently long-listed for the AMP (Australian Music Prize). Ducks! have performed live at clubs, festivals, and art galleries in Berlin, and will release their second album ‘Nak Nak’ in early 2017. Lani Bagley is a singer-songwriter, who has co-written songs for afrobeat ensembles and children’s choirs, and sang in Karen O’s psycho opera ‘Stop the Virgens’ as part of the 2012 Vivid Festival at the Sydney Opera House. Craig Schuftan is an author and radio producer, who has written three books on music and popular culture, and presents a regular series of public talks in Berlin on art, music and philosophy called ‘Culture Club Kino’.
About the Malta project:
Ducks! Do It Again is a recording project, in which Lani Bagley and Craig Schuftan investigate the role played by repetition in music enjoyed by humans. Featuring lectures, workshops, and a unique concert performed by Ducks!
On being selected for the Blitz residency:
“Ducks! are thrilled to be Blitz artists in residence for 2017. We can’t wait to begin our exploration of the theory and practice of repetition, and to collaborate with the humans of Valletta, transforming their lost and found sounds into music.”
